Exfoliating the Skin with Baking Soda It is a common fact that baking soda makes cakes and cookies fluffy. It can also work wonders for your skin. Baking soda is a physical exfoliant, which facilitates manual removal of dead skin cells with its abrasive ingredient. (Chemical exfoliants remove the dead skin cells by loosening the bond between those cells and the skin, with the help of acids or enzymes in it.) Baking soda is best for exfoliating skin, as it is a fine powder, and is usually not associated with any skin irritation. ✿ Mix a teaspoon of baking soda with some water to make a smooth paste. You may use a water-based cleanser instead of water. ✿ Splash some water on the face as it is best to apply the scrub on moist skin. Use your fingertips to apply the scrub, but leave the skin surrounding the eyes, eyebrows and mouth. ✿ Now gently rub your face in circular motions, for about 30 seconds. It is better to cover small areas, rather than trying to scrub the whole face in a single circular motion. ✿ Concentrate more on areas with blackheads or whiteheads (especially the T-zone). But never overdo scrubbing, as it may harm the skin. ✿ Once you finish scrubbing, rinse off the paste with water. Make sure that you have removed the baking soda paste completely. Pat dry and moisturize well. After exfoliation, the skin will become smooth, soft and glowing. So regular and proper exfoliation is believed to be vital for maintaining a radiant and healthy skin. Baking soda is one of the effective, inexpensive scrubs that can be used on skin.
