Exodus 29:4-9 4 “And Aaron and his sons you shall bring to the door of the tabernacle of meeting, and you shall wash them with water. 5 Then you shall take the garments, put the tunic on Aaron, and the robe of the ephod, the ephod, and the breastplate, and gird him with the intricately woven band of the ephod. 6 You shall put the turban on his head, and put the holy crown on the turban. 7 And you shall take the anointing oil, pour it on his head, and anoint him. 8 Then you shall bring his sons and put tunics on them. 9 And you shall gird them with sashes, Aaron and his sons, and put the hats on them. The priesthood shall be theirs for a perpetual statute. So you shall consecrate Aaron and his sons. Wednesdays with Moses The moment described in today’s reading was obviously a critical time for the Israelites and their plan to worship God. Aaron and his sons were consecrated as priests that they might serve in the Tabernacle on behalf of the people. But what does this have to do with us? Today, there is no priesthood to stand between us and our God. In fact, the Bible tells us that He has made us a kingdom of priests, and we know we’ve been given direct access to Him through our faith in Jesus Christ. So these verses help us see the importance of preparing ourselves to enter God’s presence. Today it seems many Christians have become quite casual in their thoughts of worship. They can seemingly try to burst into God’s presence without even a single thought of preparing their hearts. Don’t be so careless in your relationship with God. Yes, His door is always open to you, but never forget that He is God and that His presence should never be taken for granted. – Dr. Mike Clarensau serves as Senior Director of the Healthy Church Network of the Assemblies of God.
