Exodus: Gods and Kings - No Spoiler Review The year is 1300 BC, and Pharoh Seti (John Turturro) rules Egypt with the help of his son Ramses (Joel Edgerton) and his adopted son Moses (Christian Bale). When Seti dies, Ramses takes control of the throne and sets about asserting his dominance on an already persecuted slave population by creating monuments of extreme proportions and demanding ever increasing workload off the Hebrews, who are enslaved to him. When a startling revelation forces Ramses to Exile his step brother and the truth of Moses heritage is revealed to him, Moses realises he has a very different destiny to the one that he previously had thought of. After finding his true faith and love in the desert, Moses will devote his life to God and his people. In Exodus: Gods and Kings, Ridley Scott does his best to introduce a new generation to the Epic, something that cinema goers of 40s/50s and 60s expected when they attend their local flix. 1000s of extras filling cinema screens with lavish, full size sets and a distinct lack of Computer Generation!!! With Edgerton and Bale taking the principal roles, they are the only actors that can really be judged on performances, stars like Sigourney Weaver, have about 2 minutes screen time amongst the 150 to entertain us! Edgerton does us commendable job as the Pharoh who falls in to an increasing spiral of madness as Egypt is plagued time and again as his resolve is tested after being told he should set the slaves free. Bales performance as Moses is very different to the one that we are used to, presenting him as an intelligent and loyal General and advisor to the Pharoh. An accomplished soldier who is able to fight with both his heart and his body. With regards to his actual portrayal of the Biblical giant, I enjoyed his incarnation and putting aside the fact that he doesnt have the correct colour of skin, Bale is the stand out performance and he carries the whole film. 3 and 1/2 plagues out of 5 Cert 12A 150 Minutes https://youtube/watch?v=t-8YsulfxVI
