Experimenting with my diet. I have been really cutting back on fruit. Especially because its getting into colder winter weather here. Plus there is no fruit growing here locally at this time of years, maybe some apples and pears but not much. It doesnt make sense to be eating mangoes and watermelons in the cold of winter. It could throw your body off balance. Plus when its freezing outside a slice of watermelon isnt going to nourish and satisfy you. Its all about balance. Yin and yang. Fruit is very yin. Cold weather is yin. Thats why in the winter we tend to eat more yang foods. Cooked vegetables, soups, nuts ans seeds and some cooked grains like rice and mung beans which are more yang. If you are living in warm tropical climate (yang) then fruit is perfect because it is very yin. Now you have a balance. There is a lot of wisdom from the teachings of traditional Chinese medicine. They knew what they were talking about. Yin & yang isnt some wishy washy concept. There is a lot of wisdom behind it. I have come to realize that being 100% raw isnt realistic for most people and could actually be quite detrimental to ones health. I am a believer in the power of raw living foods, dont get me wrong, and I still consume a lot or raw foods. At times during the height of summer I was 100% raw, sometimes only eating melons - because thats what my body was asking me. I know my body well and I am in touch with my body. Now as the colder weather creeps in I am really enjoying baked sweet potatoes, lentil soups, mung beans and quinoa with vegetables. I still consume superfoods almost daily like goji berries, bee pollen, spirulina and various other tonic herbs. I feel that there is certain people in the raw food movement (I am not going to mention names) that strive to be 100% raw all the time and it just isnt do-able for most people. These leaders are really concerned about keeping their egos in tact and its all about their image. This beleif system can actually be quite damaging and if someone eats some rice with steamed brocolli they have failed because it isnt raw. This can turn into a deep neurosis which can damage ones health, and people can super paranoid for eating some rice with cooked broccoli. Not good. Anyways, just thought id share my thoughts and feelings with you today. Remember its not all about diet!
