They described the appointment as a violation of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations of 2009, which they said mandated the operators to relinquish their position as either chairmen of their airlines or divest their interest before they could be considered for an appointment in the sector. A statement signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Anyim Pius Anyim, had quoted President Goodluck Jonathan as having approved the composition and appointments of the chairmen and members of the governing boards of the Federal Government agencies. The details of statement said the chairman and members of the board of Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA|, include: Barrister Olusola Oke (Chairman); Mr. C. J. Udeh, Captain Kuti, Chief Okwudili Uzoka, Ambassador Jerry Ugokwe, Engr. H.Z. Abubakar, Chief Lucky Umoru, Captain Megason, Barrister A. Chukwuma, Group Captain John Yekorogha (rtd) as members. Those of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, include Dr. Dan Kure (Chairman); Onuora Chinwe Leticia, Hon. Halima Hassan Tukur, Ngozi Lavender E., Mr. Farouk Gumel, Mr. Amobi Nwokafor, Mr. Clement Adegoke Dosunmu, Chief Iboro Edaba Ige, Alhaji Muneer Bankole, Dr. Al Amin, Mrs. Patricia Ntofon, Captain Shaifi, Barrister Niyi Agbola and Group Captain Henry Unaeze (rtd). Members of the board of Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, include Abdullahi Waziri Tambuwal (Chairman); Col. Tony Igbanoi, Capt. Sabo Sambo, Chief Frank Edonkumor, Captain Alkali, Alhaji Buba, Chief Emeka Akabueze, Captain Edward Bayo, Mr. Sokie Amakree, Captain Ruma Mohammed and Barrister Bola Odugbasan. The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NIMET board has Chief Yomi Akintola as chairman. Other members are Capt. Toju Ogisi, Chief Tunde Taiwo, Mr Jim Ogbolu, Mr. Peter Momodu, Mrs. Omikunle, Mr. Ralph Ogar, Mrs. Aletche Bimbo, C.C Nwuba, Barrister Tony Odita. An executive member of National Union of Air Transport Employees, NUATE and Air Transport Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, ATSSAN, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, said the appointments violated the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations of 2009, which mandated them to relinquish their positions as either chairmen of their airlines or divest their interest before they could be considered for an appointment in the sector. They posited that a former Director General of NCAA, Dr. Harold Demuren, immediately after he was appointed to oversee the affairs of the aviation regulatory body, sold his shares in Afrijet Airlines and relinquished his position as a director in the carrier. Commenting on the issue, the former spokesman of Aircraft Operators of Nigeria, AON, Mohammed Tukur, said it was morally wrong for airline operators to be on the board of any of the aviation agencies, stressing that it would lead to conflict of interest since they still oversee the affairs of their airlines. However, a source in the industry said the experience of the appointees would help the sector, going by their pedigree in aviation matters. National Mirror
