Exploring our childhood is a difficult chapter in our journey of recovery. I do not like it at all! Some of us received very little in the way of positive role modeling or praise from our elders. Some of us received just enough to function at an acceptable level in daily life. Others were brought up by true narcissists who had absolutely no concept of allowing anyone else to have an identity apart from theirs. I am not blaming. I am stating facts. It is up to us to give ourselves the unconditional love and appreciation that we may have lacked during our childhood and teen years. We may have shut down portions of our self to please our parents or fit in with our family. There is always a price to be paid when we choose to fake it for the sake of peace or love. Inside we feel rage! Rage which typically turns into depression. Numbing our pain with a substance until we finally forget why we started to live in this twilight. Good new is; if you are reading this rant, you, like me, decided to live as a whole person again. Sick and tired of the endless cycle of addiction and self loathing. Claiming your right to be you! Able to look others in the face with out feeling less than or ashamed. I truly recommend you take full advantage of this chapter on our early development by watching all the videos. The lectures are well versed in this area of recovery and human development. Love and peace to you! I am proud of all of us for where we are today! Elena. https://youtube/watch?v=anj26cYdk_4
