Expressions of Gratitude, Day Two: BJFerguson In as much as this sentiment is quite often overused and misunderstood, I find myself thinking more of the worth of each “thing”, for which I claim my gratitude, and I’m not certain that’s such a good thing. Should there be value obviously attached or simply implied, within the fact of our gratitude, or do we revere, rather than treasure, the object of our gratitude? I admit, I have been considering this, almost as much as the object, itself. All of which is apropos of nothing, of course, and merely food for thought, but I thought I’d mention it, all the same. At any rate….Day Two… 1) I am grateful for the woman my First-born son, Timothy, was fortunate enough to find, woo, and wed, Kerry, my daughter-in-law. Her love for my son is one so beautiful and encompassing, that I feel as though it is a gift bestowed, not just upon my son, but also on his entire family. Mothers always worry that their sons will not marry well, that they won’t find someone who is as kind and caring as their son deserves, and from the first day that I met her, I knew she would always be the best part of my son’s life, for as long as he lived. Recently, when he had a heart attack, she bravely held together every minute of the ordeal, quietly breaking down only for a moment or two, after he was well on his way to recovery. She took control and made essential changes in their lives, all to the benefit of her husband, and I could only stand back and marvel at the dedication she has to the man who is my beloved child. It is not enough that I love her as dearly as I do my own…I am truly grateful that she is my son’s wife, and my daughter-in-love. 2) The gift of friendship from Rose Millian. Although cancer cut short the life of one I would come to regard as one of the dearest friends I’ve ever had the good fortune to meet, I treasure every day we had as friends. I miss her daily, still, but never fail to think of her with a smile, as she and I were a part of so much laughter in each other’s lives, and while it lasted, it was wonderful. She valued me and I her, which made our friendship one that would never die, regardless of our own life-status. My only regret is that it wasn’t possible to give her any of my life’s years, to extend hers, so that those whom she loved would have been able to laugh longer, with her. 3) A love of books/reading. Without such, I cannot imagine my life having much depth of meaning, at all, nor would I, as a person, have grown from the ignorant child, suffering at the behest of others, to the person of my own determination, today. The education gleaned from reading, has been a most valuable asset, for this poor girl, of crude, Hillbilly stock, and for it, I will be forever and always, most grateful. As my friends list is not all that long, I will only nominate one, today, to begin participating in the five-day gratitude challenge. That person is Sam Alessi. Three things, five days, and three nominated others to participate, Sam; them’s the rules…get cracking! Dont forget to tag the participants.
