Extension of GCT filing due date for the taxable period June 1 to June 30, 2014! The Tax Administration has extended the filing due date for General Consumption Tax (GCT) for the taxable period June 1 to June 30, 2014 to August 15, 2014. GCT returns for the month of June is usually due on or before July 31. The deadline has been extended to facilitate recent changes to the tax legislation for GCT on government purchases. The recent amendments require some government ministries, departments, agencies and public bodies to be registered as Tax Witholding Entities. The Tax Witholding Entities are to remit the GCT portion of the suppliers invoice to the tax department and issue a witholding tax certificate to the supplier. The suppliers are to use the witholding tax certificates to claim a credit when filing the GCT return. Suppliers of government ministries, departments and agencies are required to file GCT online. Witholding tax certificates that have not been used to claim a credit in any taxable period can be used to claim a credit in subsequent periods.
