Extracted from Magazinereel Which Course Is Better Than Others ? This is the question many freshmen are asking themselves wondering whether they stand a chance in the competitive job market. If they pursue that degree Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) “forced unto them.” This begs the question if there is such a thing as a relevant degree? Many might feel that the government is to blame, as it through one arm that is KUCCPS gives you a certain degree, offered in another arm which are the public institution only for the degree to be unrecognized by another arm, creating unnecessary tension. Something haunting some of the engineering students at Egerton University. Since most of the courses offered do not meet the threshold issued by engineering regulatory board. Bernard a 3rd year in the Faculty of Agriculture pursuing Bachelor of Science (Agronomy) believes that he has the most marketable course since Food Production is still expanding but he insists that there should be improvement on the government part so as to exploit it to its potential i.e. for instance 1 ha in Kenya providing 2 bags of maize while in USA it provides 10 bags. Truth is though some degrees may not be in demand as others but that is subject to change depending on the no. of employers and qualified grandaunts in the market but each degree is enough to secure one a job. Even though the notion of weak and strong degree created due to the cluster points tends not to go well with some freshmen he laments. Edith a former student of Maseno University cites that some courses are very marketable but have very few job opportunities. She claims that some friends who did Aquatic Science and Environmental Sciences are still tarmacking yet they graduated few years ago. She believes if a course has only 50 slots but 100 people wanted to do it, they all should allowed in because if a person does who he/she loves will bring the best in him/her. This is in contrast to the current zombie workers generation whose only motivation and cause of laboring is getting paid at the end month. Altogether a job is just a head start, a means towards the end: self- employment. The don debonair basically thinks university education is not about employment but nurturing and growing an individual into a holistic being. Who is both mentally, socially and emotionally prepared. On the other hand, every student must realize their potential and make your course expensive. No course is guaranteed of complete success or failure. So it’s up to the individual to realize success no matter the desert he is in. Let failure be your enemy be and success will be your.....
