Extracto del libro East Harlem Remembered: Oral Histories of Community and Diversity Johnny Colon acerca de su East Harlem music School. I started the music school in 1962, but I used my mothers apartment. Thanks to José Arguayo, deputy commisioner in NY, who was a big fan of my first lp. I got funding for a proyect of 19 children and I finished with 45, next year I was funbded for 45 but finished with 150 students, we operate on the 94 street and Park Av. but we were so successful that we moved to Public School 171 (19 East 103rd street) next to Boys Harbour. We developed a lot of talented musicians, Tito Puente had many band members who studied at the school. Like Joe Dejesus or Jaime Delgado. Machito and Ray Baretto were also teachers from the school, plus Eddie Palmieri and his brother Charlie. Marc Anthony was here also, he studied at school after he left he went back to Puerto Rico and made his first Lp, he became very successful and signed with Sony.
