Extreme Gentrification or urban renewal? Either way my old house is gone!! One of the most glaring things about my trip to the old neighborhood was learning that the house we lived in (3147 Becket Road) growing up has been torn down. I counted at least five other houses on the street that were gone when I returned. Our family sold the house years ago, but it was strange seeing it gone. I guess the new thinking is its cheaper to sell a vacant lot than a house in foreclosure or dilapidated. Im not sure if there is more going on with that thinking, but it seems like there now is a new strategy to tear down homes instead of rehabbing them. Strange to see a piece of my personal childhood history removed, but I guess thats whats considered progress. Before (taken August 2012) vs After (taken Jan. 2015) Only the tree remians, but it really is the same address.
