Extremely disappointed in George Lucas’ decision to build his museum in Chicago, although I understand his righteous indignation of the Presidio Trust and a few NIMBYs. Lucas still had plenty of supporters in San Francisco and the Bay Area. Still, its a shame Lucas didnt give more consideration to the museums educational mission. The pioneers of digital movie-making tools and the artists working in the field today are largely based in the San Francisco Bay Area, from Pixar, LucasFilm and Pacific Data Images/DreamWorks to Kerner Optical and other firms. They are the ones who should be tapped for special talks, classes and programs. This was part of John Lasseters appeal when he spoke in favor of Lucas initial proposal for the initial site near Crissy Field. When he was vying for the initial site, Lucas spoke about how San Francisco was his cultural center as a youth growing up in Modesto. Maybe he should revisit his own words. lucasmuseum.org/
