Eyes on the prize! Mel B is prim and proper in sizzling red number... as she is joined by One Directions Louis Tomlinson for The X Factor rehearsals This may be her first year as the judge on The X Factor, but judge Mel B is pulling out all the stops to make sure her acts make it through to the grand finale. The Spice Girls star was joined by the show’s fellow alumnus One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson at the rehearsals in London on Friday afternoon. Dressed in a gorgeous vixen red number, which featured a high-neck bow, Mel B looked content on putting her boys - Paul Akister, Jack Walton and Andrea Faustini - through an intense coaching session. The 39-year-old singer added some height to the proceedings with a pair of black leather boots, while she swept her dark locks away from her face and accentuated her facial features with pillar-box red lipstick. She was seen looking focussed as she observed her team during rehearsals and shared some wise words of advice as the 1D hunk looked on. The intense rehearsals come as it has been revealed that Simon Cowell has urged contestants to ‘step up their game’. The music mogul announced that the act with the lowest number of votes on Saturday nights show will be instantly eliminated from the competition, after he was left unimpressed with the sing-off between Only The Young and Jake Quickenden last weekend. In a release given to MailOnline, Simon is quoted saying: There’s going to be another double elimination again this weekend, and the difference is this week is there is going to be a twist. And the twist is, on the Saturday, the person with the lowest vote is going to leave the show. No sing off, just whoever is in the bottom is out. He added: ‘And theres a sing off on Sunday. So there are no second chances. This is how important the conversation is now and how important the performance is on Saturday and Sunday. We decided to do this because I think you all need a bit of a wake up call. Meanwhile, 22-year-old Louis - who is a huge supporter of Mel B’s hopeful Jack – recently admitted he found the transition from solo singer to integral band-member hard to take during their early appearances on the ITV show. Speaking in a candid new autobiography Who We Are, the 22-year-old admitted that learning to share the spotlight with Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan was a difficult process. He said: ‘I’m the type of person who likes being the centre of attention. For the whole of The X Factor I didn’t have a solo which, for me, was a tough pill to swallow.’ ‘I was delighted but at the same time, couldn’t really understand why I was in the band,’ he added. ‘That was really low, that feeling of not having a purpose, of just being along for the ride.’ The X Factor is back on Saturday at 8pm on ITV with its Fright Night Halloween special
