Ezekiel 23:33 Thou shalt be filled with drunkenness and sorrow, with the cup of astonishment and desolation, with the cup of thy sister Samaria. Judah was to experience the “cup” of God’s judgment as Samaria had in 722 B.C. Often the idea of “drinking a cup” is symbolic of receiving god’s wrath. This is speaking of the drunkenness, because of the siege which came on them when they were attacked by the Chaldeans. Their sorrow, astonishment, and desolation came on them all at once.
