FA CUP: YEOVIL TOWN 0 – 2 MANCHESTER UNITED January 4, 2015 23:30 Huish Park Stadium, Yeovil, Somerset LIVE COMMENTARY Thats all for this afternoon. Hope youve enjoyed following the LIVE text action from Huish Park. Ive been Jonathan Davies - farewell until next time. No FA Cup fairytale for Yeovil as Uniteds quality eventually shone through. It took two of their summer signings to make the difference though. Herrera with a stunning half-volley on 64 minutes, before Di Maria put the game beyond the hosts in the dying minutes. They will be in the hat for round four. FULL TIME - YEOVIL TOWN 0 MANCHESTER UNITED 2 90 + 4 Mr Pawson blows the final whistle - United progress. 90 + 2 GOOD SAVE FROM STEER! Herrera looks to rub salt into Yeovils wounds and he unleashes a vicious effort from 20 yards, but Steer uses strong hands to beat the ball away. 90 + 1 Were going to have three minutes of stoppage time. 90 AssistWayne Rooney 90 GoalÁngel Di María GOAL - DI MARIA!! GAME, SET AND MATCH UNITED! Yeovil are caught out on the counter as Rooney releases the speedy Argentine, who bears down on goal and cooly chips the ball over Steer. United are surely through now. 88 SubstitutionSam Foley James Hayter 88 SubstitutionKevin Dawson James Berrett 88 Surely the last throw of the dice from Yeovil as they make a double substitution. James Berrett and veteran James Hayter are thrown on by Johnson, with Dawson and Foley making way. 87 Substitute Tom Eaves tries to make something happen for the hosts, but Evans uses his experience in defence and is eventually awarded a free kick. 85 Smith embarks on another strong run down that left hand side. Rooney is there to comfortably bring the ball away, but the left back has offered a good outlet for Yeovil this afternoon. 84 Di Maria does look a class above everyone else out there. His touch is second to none and he never looks uncomfortable in possession of the ball. 82 If Yeovil do go on to lose this one then they will be able to put all their focus into their league campaign. Considering they were in the Championship 12 months ago, they will want to avoid a second straight relegation to League Two at all costs. 80 United will be relieved to have found the breakthrough. They may be the joint-most successful team in FA Cup history but they are susceptible to a surprise result. Goalless draws with lowly Exeter City and Burton Albion ring a bell, along with a 1-0 defeat to Leeds United in 2010. 78 Di Maria cuts in from the right hand side and opens up some space for himself. His shot is rather disappointing though as it is nowhere near the goal. 76 Rooney wasnt exactly lethal at the other end either just moments later. He looks to sweep home McNairs cross, but catches the ball wrong and sends it more towards the corner flag than the goal. 75 You fancy United to see the game through here but they do seem a little shaky. Rooney is the latest to take a heavy touch but just about recovers in time. The home fans can sense an opportunity for their side. 73 A mistake by Herrera is pounced upon in the centre of the pitch. The ball comes to Moore who cuts inside onto his right foot, but his shot is well blocked and deflects behind. 71 OFF THE LINE BY DI MARIA! Foleys corner reaches his skipper Edwards at the far post, but his header is brilliantly kept out by the well-placed Argentine. 70 Rooney and Mata were stood over it with the former stepping up. He cannot keep his effort down though as it sails aimlessly over the bar. 69 SubstitutionNathan Ralph Tom Eaves 68 United now have a free kick right on the edge of the Yeovil area. Twumasi spent too much time on the ball and gave it away rather cheaply to Di Maria, before subsequently bringing him down. 66 That was only Herreras third goal for United but, undoubtedly, his best yet - wonderdul technqiue to hit the ball with so much accuracy while spinning. On the balance of play, the Premier League side do deserve it. 64 Yellow CardAnder Herrera 64 GoalAnder Herrera GOAL TO UNITED - ANDER HERRERA!! The deadlock is broken and what a beauty it was too! Fletchers attempted pass falls the Spaniards way and, on the turn, he brilliantly sends a half-volley dipping into the top corner - no chance for Steer. 63 Man City look like theyve got themselves out of trouble as James Milner is the unlikely hero at the Etihad. Hes just got his second goal of the game in stoppage time to complete the turnaround. 62 Yeovil have been fairly solid at the back so far when theyve needed to be. They will be hoping they dont live to rue that wasted Moore chance at the other end though. 60 SubstitutionRadamel Falcao Ángel Di María 60 And that is the Colombians last action of the match, not that he had too many. Angel Di Maria comes on in his place and he unquestionably has the ability to unlock this Yeovil defence. 58 Evans chips the ball forward and it breaks kindly for Wilson, who pulls the ball back across the area but it is just behind Falcao and Yeovil are able to clear. 57 There has been late drama elsewhere as Premier League clubs appear to have rescued themselves. Aston Villa have taken an 89th-minute lead at home to Blackpool, while Stoke have completed their turnaround against non-league Wrexham. 55 WHAT A CHANCE FOR MOORE! It was put on a plate for him too! A cross from the right was inadvertently headed into his path by Evans, but he couldnt get enough on the shot and De Gea gathers. You must take that sort of opportunity - no excuses! 53 Some good work from Blackett to prevent the ball from going behind and deliver a cross, but Wilson cannot get his header on target - it was awkward in all fairness. 52 When you look at the quality United have on the pitch, it is fairly hard to comprehend the fact that they arent leading at the moment. The introduction of Mata only adds to the envious talent on display at Huish Park. 50 Moore can, of course, boast the fact that he is Yeovils top scorer in all competitions this season - though not very loudly with just four to his tally so far. 48 It almost opened up for Moore but his shot was well blocked, before Smiths dangerous ball into the box was well dealt with by the visitors. 46 SubstitutionRafael Juan Mata 46 SubstitutionLuke Shaw Jonny Evans 46 HERE WE GO AGAIN! United get us back underway. The teams are back out and United are going to make a double change at the start of this second half, as Jonny Evans and Juan Mata come on in place of Shaw and Rafael. Elsewhere, the big upset of the day comes from Loftus Road where League One Sheffield United have dumped QPR out by three goals to nil. Crystal Palace had no such problems as they swept aside non-league Dover Athletic, while Sunderland overcame Leeds 1-0. Also, Man City have just equalised against Sheffield Wednesday - James Milner got the goal. Plenty for Van Gaal to think about at the break as United are yet to make their superiority in possession count. Gary Johnson will want his players to keep going as they are, but maybe just offer a bit more in attack. HALF TIME - YEOVIL TOWN 0 MANCHESTER UNITED 0 45 + 3 Craig Pawson brings the first half to an end and the home fans seem fairly happy with the goalless scoreline going into the break. 45 + 2 WHAT A WASTE FROM MOORE! The United corner came to nothing and Yeovil countered with urgency. Moore just needed to release the ball and Dawson could have been in behind, but he dallied for too long and Fletcher made up ground to intercept. 45 + 1 Were going to have three minutes of stoppage time, presumably for the clash of heads, and United have a corner here. 45 Some good work from Nathan Smith down the left hand side after United gave the ball away cheaply. He gets to the byline and sends in a cross, but it is easy enough for De Gea to gather. 44 A nice touch from Herrera opens some space up for him. He lets fly with his left foot, but his effort is well wide of the far post. 42 That looked more like wrestling from Nugent as he drags Falcao to the floor. The Colombian is less than impressed by the Yeovil man, who can have very few complaints in being penalised. 40 Just under five minutes of the first half to play, plus stoppage time, United have had the majority of possession in all fairness. Yeovil are still yet to really test De Gea at the other end. 37 Yellow CardStephen Arthurworrey 37 They have a free kick in a decent position though. Rooneys free kick is well dealt with however by the Yeovil defence, and the hosts are able to regroup. 35 Van Gaal will be wary today as Uniteds away form has been their achilles heel so far this season. They have won just two matches on the road as well as suffering that humiliating 4-0 defeat at MK Dons in the League Cup. 33 United have two decent openings in the space of a minute. First, Jed Steer gets down well to hold Wilsons low effort, before Falcao fails to run onto the latters ball moments later as he is denied by a brilliant last-ditch challenge. 32 Elsewhere in the FA Cup, Manchester City are on course for another upset at the Etihad Stadium. They trail Championship side Sheffield Wednesday by a goal to nil at half time. 30 SLOPPY PLAY FROM UNITED! McNair is forced to play the ball back to an under pressure De Gea, who can only send his intended pass to Blackett out of play for a throw in. 28 Wilson held the ball up well on the left wing and looked to release Shaw down the touchline, but the linesman rightly ruled the former Southampton man offside. 26 Anyone who suggests that United have a lot of things go there way might reconsider their views. Today ends a run of nine consecutive draws in this competition where they have faced fellow Premier League opposition. 24 That should add a decent amount of stoppage time to the end of the half. Were back underway now though. Moore is up and running again, but McNair is still having his wounds cleaned up on the touchline. 22 Both players should be alright to continue, though they are both in need of bandages to cover their wounds. Van Gaal has sent Jonny Evans to warm up as a precaution. 20 Well, we have a break in play here. Moore and McNair are currently receiving treatment from their respective physios following a clash of heads. No malice in it from either players - both were fairly contesting for the ball. 19 His form also hasnt been too bad in just this season alone. He has netted 11 times in his last 14 starts, and is Uniteds joint top scorer in the league too with eight. 17 He has a very good scoring record in this competition, having found the back of the net in his last five matches. You wouldnt bet against him making it six today. 15 Rooney gets half a sniff at goal. The ball broke kindly for the United and England skipper after Wilson battled against the centre halves, but he curled his effort just off target. 13 And with those two home wins in the FA Cup, they have doubled the tally they have managed to achieve on this ground so far in the league. 10 They are looking to end a trio at the opposite end of the spectrum though. The Glovers have lost their last three matches and are currently bottom of League One - five points away from safety. 8 Yeovil will be dreaming of a hat-trick of home wins in this seasons competition. They overcame Crawley Town in the first round before seeing off Accrington Stanley in the second round replay. 6 Thats why McNair is a centre half! Shaw cuts inside from the left and finds Fletcher, who lays the ball off for the onrushing defender. His effort from 25 yards is one to forget though, as it flies high and wide much to the amusement of the home fans. 4 Edwards tries his luck. A bit of space opens up in front of the Yeovil skipper, who has a go from 25 yards but pulls his effort well wide of goal - thatll never trouble De Gea. 3 Understandably, there is a brilliant atmosphere at Huish Park. Its been a difficult season for the hosts and they will be hoping that today provides them with something to cheer about. 1 WERE OFF! Yeovil get us underway kicking from left to right. - The teams are out and kick off is upon us! Craig Pawson is the referee this afternoon, he took charge of Southamptons 2-0 win over Arsenal on New Years Day. - Ironically, that was the furthest that Yeovil have ever gone in this competition. They did reach the fourth round last season though, before they were beaten by Southampton. It should be quite a tricky contest today against the record-equalling 11-time winners! - This is what the FA Cup is all about as the bottom side of the third tier prepare to welcome the third best team in the top flight. They have only met twice before - both in this competition - the last time was in the fifth round in 1949 where United steamrollered their opponents 8-0. - MANCHESTER UNITED SUBS: Lindegaard, Evans, Di Maria, Mata, Januzaj, Anderson, Lingard. - MANCHESTER UNITED (3-4-1-2): De Gea; Smalling, McNair, Blackett; Rafael, Herrera, Fletcher, Shaw; Rooney (c); Falcao, Wilson. - YEOVIL TOWN SUBS: Krysiak, Berrett, Hayter, Leitch-Smith, Inniss, Eaves, A. Louis Van Gaal makes seven alterations for United from their draw at Stoke on New Years Day, as he gives a few fringe players the chance to stake their claim for a regular first-team spot. - Good afternoon and welcome to LIVE text commentary from the third round of the FA Cup. League One Yeovil Town are hoping to cause a huge upset against Premier League giants Manchester United. Im Jonathan Davies and Ill be guiding you through the action from Huish Park.
