FACEBOOK RANT IS NOT ENOUGH, PEOPLE Change we must, in order to get an alternative script to our country Malaysia tragicomedy. Facebook rant like this is not enough for sure. Real-world social situation is where things happened. We have witnessed how a top-down (governmental) approach cannot be depended in addressing the problem of the nation. Our beloved country day by day being dragged into the pit of racial/religious animosity. Our education system is a Tempurung mind control mechanism to cap citizens as in the classic HG.Wells The War Of The Worlds Thus a bottom-up solution is direly in need. This call for a grass-root movement. It is not enough that we share our grievances with like minded people. It is more important to also influence and convince those who does not share our despair to first acknowledge the validity of our point of contention before even asking them join in our struggle. As individual we should try to influence people in our immediate social environment. Starting from our close family to our office-mate, our teh-tarik buddies, our neighbours, our surau congregation and even our bosses. If you are bold enough you may also try your office party apparatchik. Believe me it is great fun. We must admit that even in casual conversation over breakfast, lunch or tea breaks, fascist-racist-prejudiced opinions are being voiced out in our social circle. Take it as our responsibility as a good citizen to slowly but surely convince them that it is a wrong view to profess. Do not preach, especially in a social situation, people respond badly to holier-than-thou preacher type. Put it in an aside joke, sarcasm is welcomed but do not back-off from an intellectual discussion. Set aside a private more in depth eye to eye discussion time to influence the identifiable social group leader/influencer. Remember, if a fascist-racist-prejudiced opinion that goes unchallenged in the social group, may be adopted by the members as an established group opinion.
