FACT # 2 Polk Countys Shoreland Zoning Ordinance is much more - TopicsExpress

FACT # 2 Polk Countys Shoreland Zoning Ordinance is much more restrictive than required by the DNR. For example, some setbacks are as much as 25% more restrictive than the DNR requires. In addition, while the DNR rule allows structural repairs to grandfathered homes, Polk County consistently tries to prohibit many of these repairs. Polk County is currently debating a draft of a new ordinance that is even more restrictive. If this overly-restrictive ordinance passes, it will continue to kill good jobs and hurt property values (making everyones property taxes higher). The bottom line is this: if its good enough for the DNR, it should be good enough for Polk County! Many people wonder if local elections really matter. As this fact demonstrates, the answer is yes. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO ME? It means your property rights and the investment in your home and property are at risk. If you cannot fix or remodel your home due to these restrictions, you may lose a significant amount of what is likely your largest investment. If you or any of your friends or family are contractors, real estate agents or own or work for a small business in Polk County this new ordinance could have a very negative impact on that business. WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT IT? On April 1st, Vote. On the left-hand column, there is a map of the County Board Supervisor Districts and below the map, you will find the names of candidates who stand for property rights, lower taxes and more jobs. Please locate the name of property rights candidate for your district and on April 1st, make sure to vote.
