FACT CHECK: Former Mayor Rowan Hinds goes with First Draft ideas at Issaquah City Council Meeting. In a March 19th Issaquah Press Article, Mr. Hinds was quoted as saying that Sammamish ignored Klahanie since the last election. While that makes for a great sound bite, it is simply not true. Issaquah rejected Klahanie voters when we refused to take on their debt in 05 (does anyone remember that?). Issaquah then furthered the travesty by not releasing us from their PAA. Without that release, Sammamish could do nothing. Their hands were tied. In fact, NEITHER city did anything until two groups of citizens approached them (separately), asking them to step up. Further, Hinds perpetuates the myth that residents would have to change their address. NOT TRUE. We called the post office months ago and the response was a collective shrug. People can use the exact same address and they can write Issaquah or Timbuktu for all we care. We only look at the street address and the zip code, and neither would change with annexation to Sammamish. While its understandable to have a former mayor make a speech at a City Council meeting, sticking to actual (verifiable) facts and historical context would help residents and councilmembers make sound decisions. Instead, we were treated to unfounded opinion and just plain fiction.
