FACT SHEET: ELMER LIMITARES On April 25, 1986, he was ordained deacon by the late Right Rev’d Nicolas F. Canlas at Ozamiz Cathedral. On May17, 1986, he was ordained priest in Calamba, Misamis Occidental. He was assigned to the different parishes in the diocese: Dimaluna (July 20, 1986- 1991); Tangub City (1996-1997); Jimenez (1997-2007); Ozamiz Cathedral (2008-2009). He was elected Diocesan Treasurer in 2000 during the Diocesan Convention at Ozamiz Cathedral. During the turned over, he received the contribution of PHP 200 per priest per month of the clergy for pension fund until 2008. The Clergy Pension contribution @ PHP 200 per month from 2000-2008 is the sum of PHP 576,000.00. On October 7, 2009, the Right Rev’d Rhee Timbang, former Bishop of Western Mindanao wrote him a letter that had informed him that a formal complaint was filed against him on the following offenses: 1) Commission of a crime; 2) Violation of the Constitution and Canons of the Church; 3) Conduct unbecoming of a clergyman, resulting allegedly from acts of embezzlement and malversation of diocesan funds. The merit of the complaint was based on the letter of the Central Office addressed to Bishop Timbang signed by the General Auditor, Reynaldo Evangelista, and General Treasurer, Saturnino Garvida and noted by the former Obispo Maximo, the Most Rev. Godofredo J. David, D.D. The letter demanded the “immediate transfer of the funds due to the National Office which were verified against the individual parishes’ files of remittance forms for the period from March 2006 to December 2008, amounted to ONE MILLION TWO HUNDRED EIGHTY TWO THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED EIGHTY PESOD AND 34/100 (Php 1,282,680.34).” The Adhoc Ecclesiastical Tribunal created by the local church headed by Msgr. Rogelio M. Legaspi found him guilty of the charges filed against him. However, based on his letter addressed to the Ecclesiastical Tribunal, he denied of committing those crimes. He was also required to account the diocesan fund balances amounted to PhP 235,316.00 as reported by the Diocesan Auditor, Florencia D. Nericua, dated December 18, 2008. He was suspended and asked to settle all the funds he had embezzled. He never accepted that he had committed those charges against him until he had joined the PICC on December 16, 2013. The Diocesan Council will file a formal complaint in court against on failure to account the SUM OF PHP 2,093,996.34 with the following breakdown of funds: 6% National Office Apportionment: PHP 1,282,680.34 Diocesan Funds: PHP 235,316.00 Diocesan Clergy Pension Funds: PHP 576,000.00
