FACTOID #3 Before they settled in the hill country of Canaan, where did the Israelites come from? The Bible says they came from east of the Jordan river. Much of the scholarship of the last hundred years, however, has reached a far different conclusion. According to this scholarship, the Israelites were originally Canaanites fleeing from the city/states of the coastal plain west of the hill country. This debate is not settled and will continue for quite some time.
