FACTS TO REMEMBER ###################### Cornel Rasanga becomes the first governor to lose his seat in a poll petition following a ruling by Kisumu High Court Judge, Justice Aggrey Muchelule. Muchelule invalidated the election of Rasanga as the Siaya County governor on grounds of electoral irregularities and malpractices. William Oduol who was Rasanga’s competitor for the seat on March 4 filed the petition and told the court of voter bribing and destruction of his campaign material by Rasanga’s supporters. Following the ruling, Rasanga through his lawyer Steven Kopot expressed dissatisfaction with the verdict saying that key evidence in his defence was not considered in the ruling. Rasanga further said that the alleged supporters who vandalised Oduol’s campaign material were not cross-examined before the court and therefore should not have been relied on to determine the petition. Muchelule has ordered that a by-election be conducted to fill the vacant seat.
