ITEM DETAILS • Magical Faerie Star Necklace: This copper filigree necklace holds a Faerie Star of May Eve pendant designed for those attracted to the fae who want to cultivate a deeper, magical understanding of all their aspects: wild and cultured, kind and cruel, compassionate and unyielding, capricious and yet constrained by rules. • I hand-formed and hand-hammered each piece of the /medallion star’s structure in copper wire. • Using wire-wrapping and weaving techniques, I assembled the star using a lovely Primrose pink 30mm lampwork lentil bead from Stone Designs by Sheila that has touches fuchsia and peridot greens, along with a swirl of clear dewdrops and 5mm faceted peridot gemstone onion briolettes. • Using more of the peridot onion briolettes, I designed, hand-formed and hand-hammered a chain link necklace, which incorporates the sacred spiral, and a hook-and-eye clasp to complement the pendant/medallion. • I gave the pendant/medallion and chain a warm brown patina, and then buffed and waxed both to a glowing finish. SIZE • The pendant measures 3”x 3”; the chain measures 22“. • You will receive the exact item shown in the photographs, ready to ship. ABOUT MAY EVE There are three faerie festivals each year. The first festival occurs on the first day of summer, which the ancient Celts believed was the first day of May. The ancient Irish believed the first day of summer was May 11th and the Scots May 15th. The Gaelic for “month of May” is “Mí Bhealtaine” and is the most likely etymology for the word “Beltane,” one of the names used by modern pagans, along with “May Day,” for this festival. Since a “day” for ancient peoples began at sundown, this faerie festival is known as “May Eve” and begins at sundown on April 30th and ends at sundown on May 1st in the Northern hemisphere. Faerie activities during May Eve/May Day/Beltane are primarily centered around the Seelie and Unseelie Courts, with the Seelie Court becoming dominant on this holiday through the third faerie festival, Samhain (November Eve).
