FAITH IN A FAITHLESS GENERATION (Part 1) The Bible is filled with stories of extraordinary faith exploits by folks of old. My favorites amongst them are Joshua preventing the sun from setting, Abraham ready to kill his own son, Joseph, the non-biological father of Jesus, keeping his fiancée though he wasnt the owner of her pregnancy & Jesus raising a 4-day old corpse. Lets fix ourselves (the present generation) into those situations. Even if an international evangelist is on the crusade ground & its getting dark, NEPA has struck & the generators arent coming on, they would simply postpone the soul-winning till the next day. Shouldnt soul-winning be more important to God than soul destruction (the war Joshua was fighting)? Today, nobody would agree that its God that has just told him to go kill his son: they would readily wave such a voice aside as being from the devil or their flesh or their stupidity. & Im yet to see a very powerful pastor wanting to go to a cementary/mortuary to go wake up a 4-day old corpse. Im sure if even the most spiri-jimjim of brothers is told in a vision that he should still accept his fiancée despite him not being the owner of her pregnancy, hell just laugh it off as a nonsensical hallucination. Were a faithless generation indeed! No wonder God had to do all the extraordinary things He needed to do during the era of those ancient folks bcos He knew we would be a faithless generation. Why are we so faithless? That was a question that used to rage in my heart when I was a child. Whenever I asked, I was given different answers: *were too sinful for God to do such miracles in our lives. Well, I dont think being sinful has anything to do with agreeing to kill your own son or agreeing to take a pregnancy thats not yours. *we dont have enough faith. What?! If someone that attends vigils for straight 49 nights or fasts marathon for 21 days doesnt have faith, I dont know who does. The determination to do such things can never come from someone who doesnt believe God enough. & we have millions of such people on earth as we speak. The sun stood still even for the children of Israel that were so faithless that one minute they were with God, the next they were worshipping idols. Are we that bad today to deserve this disenfranchisement from a few divine extraordinary events? What about the miracles that happened in the generation Jesus Himself labelled Oh faithless generation? *Those extraordinary things were destined to happen at those times only for our benefit today. But how come God didnt even schedule at least 1 or 2 of those extraordinary things into our own era too? Cant such events in our era be useful for the next generations after us too? Later on I came across 2 further explanations *Some people have opined that some of those biblical stories are partially or completely untrue *Perhaps were a better developed civilization that no longer needs such dependence on the divine for everything in our lives. Why would you need the sun to stand still when u can predict easily the weather & organize your daily activities accordingly? & who compulsorily needs daylight for drone attacks on ISIS? THE MORE TECHNOLOGICALLY ADVANCED A SOCIETY IS, THE LESS THEY DEPEND ON THE SUPERNATURAL & THUS THE LESS THEY SEE MIRACLES AROUND THEM. In times of Jesus, every parent would want to take their sick child to Jesus for healing. In enlightened societies today, you will go to jail if you take your child for divine healing. So why this disparity? Let me stop for now. The remaining parts of the post will come later.
