FAITH IN ACTION Perseverance As a child growing up, we used to go to the farm which was very far from our house. The path was characterized by bushes and crooked. It took us like one hour to get to the farm and another hour to come back. It wasnt an easy journey at all. The part I can really remember is when you are wearied after the day’s hard labour and asked to carry fire wood on our return. You still have to endure carrying the load and walk. I never liked any bit of that adventure. In fact, it made me hate farming if that was all to it. I define perseverance as going on when you feel like not going on. It hurts. It drains. You look at others and they have given up. There is no inspiration. Hope is lost. It is very easy to move on when everything is going on well. It is very tough to move likewise when all is not well. You know, the only people we celebrate in life are those who never quit. Hollywood film star Arnold Schwarzenegger has said that he counts push-ups when he starts feeling the pains. That is a classic example of perseverance. I hope by now you know that perseverance doesnt come to us naturally. What then do you do to keep going? Jesus, for the prize that was set before Him, endured the cross. The only way to stay in your tracks and persevere is when you identify your reward and keep it looked in your mind’s eye. Enjoy today.
