FAITH WITH WITHOUT WORKS IS DEAD?? James 2: 14-26. If you are a student of the Word, you are aware that there are several verses in the Bible that as written are problematic, and need further explanation. It needs to be said clearly that these verses in James have been, and continue to be, terribly mishandled, and misunderstood by many. The result of a wrong understanding of the verses mentioned is a teaching that says that we are not saved by grace through faith ( Eph. 2:8,9) alone, but we are saved by grace through faith plus works. This damming teaching has caused many to deny the sufficiency of the work that Jesus did for us on the cross, and has led multitudes of people into a works for righteousness plus a little faith for righteousness relationship with God. This is not at all sound New Testament teaching. Romans 11:6 clearly says And if by grace then it is no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. There is NO saving relationship with, and NO peace with God for those who are trying to work to be justified! Will good works show themselves in the life of a person who has come to God in faith in Jesus alone? Yes. Genuine saving faith will have as a bi-product good works. How many, and what kind of works will vary from person to person, and will increase as the born-again believer matures in their walk with the Lord, and is being conformed to the image of Christ. Without faith, it is IMPOSSIBLE to please God......To those who have ears to hear, let them hear.
