FAITH WITHOUT WORK IS DEAD Today’s journal: James 2:26 For the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without work is dead:. Message: In today’s chapter 2 of James, we are clearly told that faith without works is dead (2:17). It does not mean that works will result in faith, but that good works will affirm that our faith is real. It is easy to say we believe in God, but only our works can prove the truthfulness of our words. James is not saying that our works make us righteous before God, but he is making it clear that real saving faith is demonstrated by good works. Works are not the cause of salvation; works are the evidence of salvation. The person who claims to be a Christian but lives in willful disobedience to Christ with a life that shows no works has a false or dead faith and will reap the consequences. Promise: The true test of our faith is our willingness to step out and back up those words with our actions. Warning: Faith without works is dead because it reveals a heart that has not been transformed by God. Command: Christians belong to Christ, and as His sheep they hear His voice and follow Him, the reason our God requires us to be in obedience to what we believed. Faith must be fed the Word of God to thrive and fully develop. It must be exercised to gain strength. Application: Do people know what you believe by how you live? Today, choose to honor God in all you do, so that those around you may know the truth.
