FAITHFUL & CENTERED FRIDAY SCRIPTURE TEACHING LESSON By Elder Shelby Talton TOPIC: FREELY I RECEIVED, FREELY I GIVE! SUBTOPIC: HE TAUGHT US TO BE GENEROUS! Acts 20:35 New King James Version (NKJV) 35 I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” Acts 20:35 The Message (MSG) 33-35 “I’ve never, as you so well know, had any taste for wealth or fashion. With these bare hands I took care of my own basic needs and those who worked with me. In everything I’ve done, I have demonstrated to you how necessary it is to work on behalf of the weak and not exploit them. You’ll not likely go wrong here if you keep remembering that our Master said, ‘You’re far happier giving than getting.’” Matthew 10:8 New International Version (NIV) 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy,[a] drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give. Matthew 10:1-4 The Message (MSG) The Twelve Harvest Hands 10 1-4 The prayer was no sooner prayed than it was answered. Jesus called twelve of his followers and sent them into the ripe fields. He gave them power to kick out the evil spirits and to tenderly care for the bruised and hurt lives. This is the list of the twelve he sent: Simon (they called him Peter, or “Rock”), Andrew, his brother, James, Zebedee’s son, John, his brother, Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew, the tax man, James, son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon, the Canaanite, Judas Iscariot (who later turned on him). Matthew 10:5-8 The Message (MSG) 5-8 Jesus sent his twelve harvest hands out with this charge: “Don’t begin by traveling to some far-off place to convert unbelievers. And don’t try to be dramatic by tackling some public enemy. Go to the lost, confused people right here in the neighborhood. Tell them that the kingdom is here. Bring health to the sick. Raise the dead. Touch the untouchables. Kick out the demons. You have been treated generously, so live generously. Psalm 41:1 King James Version (KJV) 41 Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble. Psalm 41:1 The Message (MSG) A David Psalm 41 1-3 Dignify those who are down on their luck; you’ll feel good—that’s what God does. God looks after us all, makes us robust with life— Lucky to be in the land, we’re free from enemy worries. Whenever we’re sick and in bed, God becomes our nurse, nurses us back to health. PAUL HAD GIVEN A LIFE OF SACRIFICE FREELY. YOU CANT TAKE YOUR EYES OFF OF HOW GENEROUS GOD IS. WE HAVE RECEIVED SO MUCH THAT WE LOSE TRACK OF IT & WE MUST FREELY GIVE IT AWAY. FOLLOWING JESUS HAS A WAY OF BLESSING YOUR LIFE THROUGH HIS GENEROUSITY. YOUR ABILITY TO GIVE IS HERE NOW & PEOPLE NEED TO SEE THAT. WE MUST PLEDGE TO BE HAPPY, CHEERFUL & GENEROUS GIVERS! ~~~Prophetess Velda E. Horton
