FALL FESTIVAL One of the fond memories from elementary school - TopicsExpress

FALL FESTIVAL One of the fond memories from elementary school (Calk Elementary) in the 1950s was the annual Halloween carnival with its ghoulish decorations, cake walks, beanbag throws, spook house (I remember the bowl of floating grapes....meant to look like floating eyeballs in the low light...corny, but scary when youre young), etc. At some point, Halloween became an unacceptable school celebration. I found this photo from the Caller-Times (Nov, 1967). It seems that the old Halloween carnival had been replaced with a simple PTA sponsored carnival. Our beloved Mr. Battles was still the principal in 1967, so maybe he can shed some light on the changes.
