FALL HAS ONE FOOT OUT THE DOOR, AND SNOW IS IN THE FORECAST Good morning everybody, today is our last day for mild weather for the foreseeable future. Milder air is surging up from the southwest along a cold front that is pushing east over western New York state right now. This front will clear the coast overnight, and drag some showers across Western Mass in the afternoon. We will clear overnight, and have a nice day tomorrow, but you will notice the change in air mass, with highs not reaching 50 tomorrow. Clouds will be on the increase tomorrow as a secondary cold front approaches our area. Even colder air is behind this front, and Western Mass could receive its first coating of snow Thursday night into early Friday morning. A weak little shortwave will ride along the front, and create some lift in the atmosphere. I dont expect much more than a 1/2 of snow, maybe up to an inch in places, but it should dust the ground in at least some locales by Friday, which will be a blustery and colder day, with highs down into the low 40s on gusty northwest winds. Saturday we wont even hit 40 degrees, as we will sit in the upper 30s. Then we turn to Sunday, as another cold front approaches our area (lots of cold fronts!), and a potentially stronger low will develop along the front, and pass to our southwest. This one is further out, but certainly could at least cause a rain/snow mix in our area. Im not sure that there will be cold high pressure to the north, but it could still be cold enough given the timing of the precip on Sunday night to snow here in WMass. So, we have two chances at whitening the ground. Before Thanksgiving. And the Winter Solstice is still 5 weeks away. Get your cold weather clothes and gear ready, folks. Its on.
