FALL LEAF CLEANUP The Department of Public Works will offer - TopicsExpress

FALL LEAF CLEANUP The Department of Public Works will offer fall cleanup programs to assist city residents to dispose of leaves and brush. The department will begin loose leaf pickup November 12th. In order to make the program economical, the department will make one pass around the city. Residents wanting to participate in the loose- leaf pickup must have leaves raked onto the terrace no later than November 12th. Time will not allow for the department to make return trips to areas of the city once curbside leaf pickup has occurred. Leaves should be raked onto the terrace and not into the street so as to avoid clogging the storm drains. Loose brush piles will also be picked up Wednesdays in November until Dec 17th , or as long as weather permits. Loose brush should be piled on the terrace separate from loose leaves. Please do not mix leaves and brush as the department cannot economically handle piles of mixed brush and leaves. As alternatives, brown biodegradable paper bags will be collected curbside, on a continuous basis, throughout the months of October and November. Plastic bags will not be collected. Residents are always encouraged to use the Beaver Street drop-off, which is open 24 hours a day, for any leaves or brush. Do not leave plastic bags of leaves at the compost site, since these are not biodegradable. Please empty the plastic bags and deposit the bags into the garbage barrels that are there for public convenience. For more information please call the department at 773-4556.
