FAN SHARES A STORY OF HOPE I would like to share our story with all the parents of micro preemies out there. I gave birth to twins at 23 w 6 d. We lost our son shortly after, and we were told our daughters lungs were so badly damaged her chances of survival were slim and shed likely have servere long term health consequences. She was in the NICU for 160 days, and during that time she had IVH, PIE, PDA, PPHN, ROP, CLD & BPD, an ilius, severe hyponatremia, extreme feeding intolerances, failure to thrive, and was intubated for close to 100 days. She had sepsis twice, and 10 transfusions. She came home after three rounds of decadron on oxygen and monitors and with a g tube. She had a gastroenterologist, cardiologist, opthamologist, neurologist, nutritionist, audiologist, and occupational therapist. We worked VERY hard to get her healthy, get her eating & growing, and get her caught up. As of this week she is one year adjusted and today she was given a clean bill of health. Shes officially caught up to her adjusted age and only needs regular check ups with her pediatrician from here on out. We are so proud of her and so grateful to everyone who has helped us get this far. These preemies are so strong! Heres a picture of her at one month old weighing 1.5 lbs and one of her today weighing 19.9 lbs.
