FANIA ALL STARS Spanish Fever Columbia Records (CR-8869) A fresh new groove from the Fania All Stars, one that definitely has them picking up some of the Spanish elements mentioned in the title. The fusing them into the tight mix of Latin, club, and jazz they were doing at Columbia Records in the late 70s. These new elements are often light and a bit of acoustic guitar here, maracas there, or some slightly different rhythms and theyre warmed up nicely by the mix of electric and acoustic instrumentation used by the group, who are definitely at the height of their disco powers here! Core players include Papo Lucca on keyboards, Nicky Marrero on timbales, Johnny Pacheco on flute, Roberto Roena on bongos, and Bobby Valentin on bass. Other players include Hubert Laws on flute, Eric Gale on guitar, Louie Ramirez on vibes, and Luis Perico Ortiz on trumpet. Vocals are by Ismael Miranda, Pacheco, and Ruben Blades on a tasty original composed by Blades and Ramirez with a hot vibes solo that makes this classic swing on Sin Tu Carino. Other titles include Spanish Fever, Que Pasa, Space Machine, Donde, Your Sereneness and Coro Miyare featuring Johnny Pacheco on an African chant intro and featuring Roberto Roena on a sizzling bongo solo with Perico blowing away. Other hit dance tune is an original composition penned by Johnny Ortiz and Louie Ramirez, Te Pareces A Juda with Ismael Miranda leading the vocal parts. This is a must have album for any serious Fania All Star aficionados and indeed a classic. Enjoy! Side A 1. Spanish Fever 2. Que Pasa 3. Space Machine 4. Your Sereneness Side B 1. Coro Miyare 2.
