FAQ: HAVE A READ CANTABS! - We get over a hundred questions each day – more during the winter months and this sky rockets during those snowy wintry periods! • Will it snow in Hanmer Springs today?? It will remain very cold there today with a high of around 3-4 degrees. By late afternoon or evening expect sleety showers and snow showers are possible • Will Christchurch see snow in the next 4-5 days?? Overnight Monday and Tuesday snow showers could lower to around 100-200m. So very low snow - perhaps as a percentage it would be around 25% . Latest shows a more SW airflow, meaning we may miss the worst. • Will the ski fields see much snow over the next 4-5 days?? All the fields should at least see a dusting with the more eastern fields seeing more snow. Mt Lyford once again should see the most snow over this period. • Best place to take the kids to see the snow?? Best places for snow are areas about mid and South Canterbury above 500m. Snow depths are average so don’t expect great snow conditions. Perhaps a visit to one of the ski fields would be a better option. Be careful if you’re out traveling as we expect snow and sleety conditions to set in above 300m. • Will the alpine passes be affected?? Yes to some extent, it will remain icy and snowy in these areas with snow setting in during the afternoon for Porter’s Pass. This could well close the road later this evening. Burkes Pass has snow and conditions remain icy with snow in the area. All the higher road across the region (400m) will be snowy/icy, including B.P - Take care • When will we see the sun??
