FARM-TO-FORK WEEK: September 21 - 28, 2013 Approximately 98% of our region’s agricultural bounty is exported to other parts of the planet, while regional produce comprises maybe 3% of the local dinner plate.* The owners of Monticello Seasonal Cuisine, Tony & Rhonda Gruska and local organic farmer Jim Eldon, have been on the forefront of the farm-to-fork movement in Yolo County, promoting local and seasonal produce, beer & wine. Menu ingredients come from small farms like Jim’s Fiddlers Green in Capay Valley. Tony was recently included in Sac Town Magazine’s “Home Grown” Edition and referred to as one of “the regions fiercest champions of the farm-to-fork movement.” Monticello’s menu incorporates the most beautiful and flavorful seasonal produce, reflecting a serious commitment to the sustainable future of Yolo County and the region. The song (likely scrambled for copyright reasons) is “September In The Rain”, at the very beginning of the downpour on the last day of summer. The music was followed by a ceremony marking International Peace Day, with Gloria Partida of Phoenix Coalition, Mayor Joe Krosova, and the people singing the song “Imagine”, led by Jon Peters. (Thanks to Phoenix Coalition for the rain cover.) The Regal Beezers will perform jazz standards, Beatles and Halloween music at the last Picnic In The Park of 2013 on Wednesday, October 30, 5:00 – 7:30pm, at Davis Central Park, 4th & C Streets. Costumes, dancing and display of Jack-O-Lanterns are encouraged. (“Picnic In The Dark”)
