FARM TOUR: Instead of gluing chrysalises, now we simply lay them on the bottom of a mesh habitat. In the first photo, I didnt place a paper towel in the bottom. Normally a paper towel is in the bottom. The second photo shows the correct way to emerge them. Plastic must be UP or DOWN - NOT TO THE SIDE. The third photo shows what happens if the plastic is to the side if you emerge Monarchs in a mesh habitat. They dont realize that the plastic is there and when they emerge, their instinct makes them go toward the light. Instead of crawling up, they try to crawl through the plastic and continue as their wings dry crumpled. If mesh is on all four sides, they crawl to the side, crawl up the side, and sit a few inches off the bottom, and expand their wings.
