FASTING UPDATE: Thank you all for your heartfelt participation in fasting and praying for the Gilmores yesterday. Twenty of us showed up at the live prayer meeting at Action Community Church and many others were fasting and praying from all over the world – Germany, Haiti, Indiana, Idaho, Nebraska, Monrovia, Chicago, Fresno, and several other locations. We sat in a circle and after sharing ideas, we started our time with silence, taking a few minutes to listen to God, seeking His will. Then we prayed for over an hour for multiple areas – for healing, comfort, peace, wisdom, trust, spiritual protection, and whatever else the Spirit led us to pray. Prayers for Ericlee, Dorina, Maria & Doug (Dorina’s parents), Chris (Ericlee’s mom), and the girls were offered by these compassionate and concerned friends. Through tears, we lifted up prayers, shared verses (Psalm 91, Jeremiah 31 I think, Isaiah 25 - see below), and sang a beautiful acappella chorus of “Have Thine Own Way Lord”. It was a powerful, peaceful experience. It was amazing watching the Church be what we were created to be, pouring out God’s love on friends who are suffering. One of Ericlee’s closest friends Chris, shared with me a CS Lewis quote that fits this experience so well: “I pray because I can’t help myself. I pray because I’m helpless. I pray because the need flows out of me all the time- waking and sleeping. It doesn’t change God- it changes me.” No matter what God does with the heartfelt prayers we offered him yesterday (and continue to offer him), I know that the experience of coming together in unified prayer did something great in our hearts. PLEASE SHARE with us what your experience of fasting and praying for the Gilmores was like, whether you were with us in person or not. If you have a verse or prayer for them, please share it here. My experience - I left the event feeling such peace. When I went outside, clouds had filled the sky and I witnessed an astounding, glowing sunset. I visited Ericlee afterwards and as I left the house, it began pouring. Somehow the bright full moon was completely visible and I soaked in that moment (and the rain). I’d like to see that experience as a sign of God hearing his children cry out earnestly to Him. It reminded me of a similar downpour we witnessed in Haiti while Ericlee, myself, and Doug finished up our men’s conference with a washing of feet ceremony. I wonder if Ericlee heard the rain from his bed, dreaming of those life-changing adventures in the country he so passionately loves. For the entire Lazo/Gilmore Family, we will continue to pray that God will “steady your hearts” throughout this difficult season. May God use our words and verses to strengthen you in this difficult season. LORD, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago…. You have been a refuge for the poor, a refuge for the needy in their distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat…. He will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth. The LORD has spoken. 9 In that day they will say, “Surely this is our God; we trusted in him, and he saved us. This is the LORD, we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation.” (Isaiah 25:1, 4, 8-9) https://youtube/watch?v=RRpTh1sgIzI
