FATHER AND SON ARE FEARED DEAD AND ONE DIES AFTER THEIR BOAT CAPSIZED An eighteen year old man in Nkhotakota has died while two others are missing and are feared dead after the boat they were peddling capsized in Lake Malawi. According to the survivor Mr. Petro Chirwa (40) who hails from Kapanga village in the area of Senior Chief Malengachanzi in Nkhotakota told Nkhotakota police station that four of them including his brother who is now deceased Vumiliya Mang’ango (18), Mr. Phonera Biliati (40) and his son Misheck Biliati on April 29 2014 during morning hours they set off journey into the lake for fishing. Petro Chirwa also revealed that whilst they were in the course of fishing they were hit by Mwera winds which forced their boat to capsize. Following this development Chirwa struggled for his own life and managed to swim up to the shore where he informed village headman Kapanga who immediately reported the matter to Nkhotakota police station concerning the missing of the tree people. The police and the members of the community rushed and organized a search party for the trio, up until on Thursday May 1 2014 when Vumiliya Mang’ango was discovered floating dead on the lake. Postmortem conducted revealed that the deceased died due to suffocation and search for the other two is still in progress. This is a second incident within this month where two brothers again died after the canoe they were peddling capsized in Lake Chilingali. These primary school learners died during the time they were crossing the lake to buy fish where on their way the canoe capsized and died after failing to swim to the shore. The deceased were Stainley Maulidi (14) and Ishmael Maulidi (11) both of Khufi Village in the area of Senior Chief Malengachanzi in Nkhotakota district. Meanwhile the police is strongly advising the general public to be conscious with all measures put inorder to reduce all avoidable cases of drowning.
