FB-22 Strike Raptor (from ace combat 5) The FB-22 was conceived - TopicsExpress

FB-22 Strike Raptor (from ace combat 5) The FB-22 was conceived by Lockheed Martin in 2002 as a medium bomber and air-to-ground strike derivative of the F/A-22A, built on its planned and actual capabilities to serve the regional bomber role formerly covered by the F-111 Aardvark. The aircraft was intended to be a conventional Raptor outfitted with delta wings and a lengthened fuselage, allowing for an increase in fuel storage, combined with stronger engines that would have allowed it to achieve speeds of Mach 1.92 to support the enlarged body. The Strike Raptor was later put forward as a candidate for the United States Air Forces Next-Generation Bomber program on account of the reduction of costs for being based on a reliably tested platform, serving as a temporary measure until the development of the conceptual 2037 Bomber. The production of the aircraft was permanently cancelled by the 2006 Quadrennial Defense Review, as the US government favored a subsonic bomber with intercontinental range.
