FB friends, I dont usually pass article links on (other than my own). But this one has my attention. Speaking as someone who is an active member of the LDS (Mormon) church myself, and who has sat on councils that consider excommunication for apostasy, I find this article at the very least intellectually dishonest and disingenuous. The articles entire premise is in the suggestion that the church (or any church, for that matter) is a club led by a small group of people who at their whims can change the bylaws to reflect todays trends and evolving sense of morality. It is not. The LDS church teaches clearly that it believes its doctrines are established by Jesus Christ Himself. Nobody, including leadership, is free to change them. If these disaffected members dont buy that, then by definition they believe they belong to a church that is not following God. Why under those circumstances they would choose to stay is interesting. They are certainly free to leave and form their own churches. This case is far from being a case where these people are institutionally disenfranchised victims. They seem to be seeking (and now getting) their proverbial 15 minutes.
