FBC Missions Highlight - week of August 24 For a woman looking for a daytime opportunity at FBC, we invite you to Clara Matthews Women on Mission. This group meets the second Tuesday of the month at 9:30 a.m. in the Conference Room (Room 201) at the church. Our ongoing ministries include God’s Pantry, Pregnancy Help Center, Sunrise Children’s Services as well as providing magazines for nursing homes. We also are involved in church-wide efforts such as Single Mom’s Oil Change and Kentucky Changers. An important part of our ministry is praying for people as the Lord leads: missionaries, persecuted Christians, wounded warriors, and Clara Matthews herself. Clara Matthews, our namesake, is a retired missionary who served in the Philippines for 35 years and now lives in Louisville. At 85, she is still active in her church and continues to sing with groups in the area. Clara would like for us to pray for situations on Mindanao, the southern-most island of the Philippines, where she and her husband served. First, for those trying to recover in the aftermath of Typhoon Halong: survivors trying to rebuild their lives and their homes; children trying to recover from the trauma; and for families moving to big cities to find work and having to live in squalid conditions. Second, praise the Father for the number of people coming to the Lord as a result of the calamity. Also Clara would like for us to pray for three missionaries who are working with tribal people in the mountains where Muslim influence continues to increase. On a personal level, Clara would like prayer for some difficulties in walking as a result of a fall earlier this year.
