FBC News The Free Medicine Scheme is now being rolled out. So far, only seventy-two people are registered and are utilizing the program. Registration for the scheme started on December 24th last year and was to have been rolled out at the beginning of this month. Minister for Health, Jone Usumate says a few issues with some pharmacies caused the delay in implementing the scheme – however registration continues. ‘’The registration process is going and we encouraging anybody that knows that they are eligible for that assistance to go to any of our Health centres or hospitals and become enrolled’’. The Ministry is now working with 47 private sector pharmacies to implement the program into their systems. ‘’We are as much as possible trying to put in our health information software into their computers where necessary we are giving them assistance on internet on computer facilities there’s a big need to train people on how to use these processors, if of course that takes time there’s still a manual system that’s in place’’. The free medicine initiative is being monitored by a task force from the Health Ministry. Those eligible for the program include individuals over 18 who earn less than 20 thousand dollars or those households whose joint income is less than 20 thousand dollars a year.
