FBC Opens Kalayaan 2012 Badminton Cup Tournament In Commemoration Of 114th Philippine Independence Day KUWAIT CITY, May 12: The 29th Badminton Tournament dubbed “Kalayaan 2012” Cup organised by the Filipino Badminton Committee - Kuwait Philippines, Inc. (FBC-KPI) kicked off officially on Friday at the Kuwait Disabled Sports Club in Hawally with Philippine Labour Attache David Des Dicang as the guest of honour. The opening programme hosted by Joel Jimenez Jr started with the parade of the players in their colourful uniforms followed by singing of the Kuwait and Philippine national anthems and the heartwarming invocation led by Deejay Garcia. FBC President Felix Besanez welcomed all the guests that included Mr Shanker of Mediacom, PABAK Commissioner Rod Cerezo as well as the participants in the tournament and other badminton enthusiasts. He informed that the tournament is in commemoration of the 114th Philippine Independence Day. He then explained the tournament’s court rules. He outlined that the tournament is divided into two divisions: AM and PM games divisions. The AM games will be from from 8am - 12:30 noon while the PM games will be from from 12:30 to 5pm. There are two categories in the AM games namely the (1) Mix Team Event, composed of 4 players (2 Men, 2 Ladies). Players are ranked according Levels 1,2,3, and 4; and the Mix Doubles (Class C&D), composed of 2 players (class C&D levels). On the other hand, there are three categories in the PM games namely Mix Doubles Class Higher C (for players under Higher Class C level); Mix Doubles Class B (for players, ladies or men, under Class B level) and Mix Doubles Class A (hard smashing, sly players under Class level). “I would like to congratulate FBC for organizing successfully badminton tournaments such as this one which promotes camaraderie among its members as well as other expatriates. The Kalayaan 2012 Cup is just in time for our national day and I would like to remind everyone not to forget to give back to our beloved country,” stated Dicang in his inspirational speech. The IMCO group won the best in uniform award whose members were clad in red and blue all-out uniform while the best group parade performance went to AIM Global Motion with their breathtaking performance. On the other hand, Lowela Cayme was awarded best in individual performance. Dicang along with FBC Founding Chairman Dr Chie Umandap and FBC Vice President Richard Delos Santos led the ceremonial toss that signaled the start of the tournament. Meanwhile, the oath of office and signing of the Memorandum of Understanding was held between the newly appointed President of the FBC South Cotabato Chapter in the Philippines, Gina Laureta Montalban and the Executive Committee headed by FBC President Felix Besanez, Umandap, FBC Vice-President Nelson Lacson, Michelle Fuerte and Mariel Besanez with Labour Attache Dicang as the inducting officer. Alongside, two FBC members, Eric Reyes and Lezlie Delos Santos were also sworn into office and promoted to VP Technical and Technical Officer respectively. The FBC South Cotabato Chapter will be based in Barangay Poblacion, Tupi and supported by the Barangay Council of the Barangay Poblacion, Tupi. The Barangay Council will allocate a regular timing for the use of their covered court for the FBC South Cotabato Chapter. In return, FBC will provide the needed sports equipment. Barangay Poblacion was the recipient of the Educational Television package project of FBC in April 2011.
