FCTA, NCBC TO DEVELOP ENTREPRENEURS IN FASHION INDUSTRY, AS ABUJA HOSTS BUSINESS OF FASHION CONFERENCE September 8, 2013 | WorldStage News The Federal Capital Territory Administration and the Nigeria China Business Council (NCBC) are to collaborate in the provision of skills acquisition and development of entrepreneurs in the fashion industry in the FCT. The Honourable Minister of State for FCT, Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide, stated this at the weekend during a meeting with the National Director of Public Affairs of NCBC, Dr. Chukwu Tony Chime and Chief Executive Officer of Asakeoge Couture Limited, Miss Asake Agoro. The minister explained that the partnership between the Administration and NCBC would empower young men and women with business skills towards bringing positive growth and development to the Nigerian fashion industry. “Entrepreneurs are the driving force behind innovative change in any society and the fashion and textile industry is no exception. Nigeria is blessed with abundant human resources that can be given the required business skills, not only to earn a living for themselves, but be part of the inevitable industrial revolution,” she noted. The minister also expressed the Administration’s support of the Business of Fashion Conference being organised by the Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria and Asakeoge Couture in Abuja on 14th September, 2013. Earlier in his address, the NCBC’s Public Affairs Director said the Council was supporting the development of entrepreneurs in the fashion industry in line with its mandate to promote trade relations between Nigeria and China. “The Chinese Textile and Manufacturing Industry is a multi-billion dollar industry and also highly labour-intensive industry. We believe with the right programmes and infrastructure, the business model can be easily replicated in Nigeria. “There is an increasing recognition by the fashion industry that entrepreneurial and small business management skills are an essential component of the fashion entrepreneur’s portfolio of management skills together with leadership, team building, communication and networking,” he noted. He added that the business of fashion conference would support the growth of the Nigerian Fashion Industry through nurturing fashion entrepreneurs to start up, survive, and grow their businesses.
