FDOT RoadWatch for Emergency bridge repair on southbound I-75 at - TopicsExpress

FDOT RoadWatch for Emergency bridge repair on southbound I-75 at University Parkway overpass (mile marker 213) in Sarasota County. Currently, the inside southbound lane on I-75 over University Parkway is open to traffic. The middle and outside southbound lanes are closed at the overpass. Tonight traffic in the outside southbound lane may exit I-75 at the interchange and travel across University Parkway to re-enter the interstate southbound. Exiting traffic also may turn right onto University to travel westbound. If repair work overnight proceeds well, one lane eastbound and one lane westbound on University Parkway will open to traffic by rush hour tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. While repair work is underway, motorists should expect congestion on I-75 southbound in this area and plan for delays if their destinations are south of University Parkway. Drivers may want to consider alternate interchanges and/or routes into Manatee and Sarasota Counties. Drivers also may need to use other interchanges to access I-75. Crews began cleaning up loose concrete at the overpass immediately after the incident late this morning that damaged the bridge. Engineers have assessed damage, and repair is underway 24/7 until traffic on both I-75 and University Parkway is restored to normal patterns. Tonight crews will complete clean up and place forms for areas needing new deck. Tomorrow and Wednesday crews will pour new deck in areas where damaged concrete has been removed. Lanes on University Parkway will reopen as work on the overpass progresses. The middle and outside southbound lanes on I-75 will reopen to traffic Wednesday afternoon when all work is expected to finish. Please use caution, drive with care, and plan extra travel time in this area # # # dot.state.fl.us Consistent, Predictable, Repeatable
