Damari signed a four-year contract with Austria in the summer, guaranteeing himself a salary of 350-400 thousand euros a season – more than double his wages in Israel. His signing cost the club 1.6 million euros, with a sizable portion coming in the form of a donation from a wealthy businessman of Jewish origin.
