FEATURE POST OF THE DAY! When I was seven, my dad died. This has since impacted my life in more ways then I could imagine. Small ways, large ways. Having to stay with my mom while she works late into the night. Not having a father to walk me down the aisle. This May marked when he has been gone for more than half my life. Im not sure how I feel about that. What I do know, is growing up with a single parent has made me strong. A strong that you cant know unless youve had something like this happen to you. Today I realized that my dad never did get to complete the Harry Potter series. He passed away two months before Deathly Hallows was released. That is one of the saddest realizations that Ive had in a while. Trust me, hearing for the first time that a loved one is gone is heartbreaking. Being only seven at the time I didnt get as emotional as some might. I missed him but my life didnt change too much at first. But then stumbling onto something that he wrote, or seeing a picture of him a few years later... That was when I started to understand. But you do get better, I read his journal frequently, its my way of remembering him. I think of him everyday, but not with sadness anymore. I think of him as my dad, looking down and being proud of me. You have to get up and stand tall and not live in the past. ~ Rachel
