FEATURED ARTIST FOR THE MONTH OF AUGUST 2014: DIANE ENGLISH OPEN HOUSE: FRIDAY, AUGUST 8, 2014 FROM 5:30 – 7:00 PM LOCATION: TBAC OFFICE/GALLERY AT 127 W. CHISHOLM ST. IN ALPENA Thunder Bay Arts Council and the TBAC Gallery present Diane English, fiber and metal artist, as the Artist In-Residence for the month of August. After retiring from teaching kindergarten in Roseville for twenty-four years, she started working with driftwood and found objects. What fun! She had found a new outlet for her creativity....and discovered the rule for art---THERE IS NO RULE! She finds it truly enjoyable to be lost in a project and time just flies. Its also a great pleasure to find objects and see what they will morph into. Last summer two of her works were accepted in the Art Show at the Besser Museum. When the Gees Bend Quilters came to Orlando in January, 2007, she was able meet them and worked on a design with three ladies. This was a turning point for her in her fiber art. She now creates her own designs in the Gees Bend style in wool and cotton. She started doing small landscapes. Choosing the colors is just important to her as the designs. Diane’s quote: “I dont think I could go back to traditional work, but thats just me” A collection of her work will be on display at the TBAC Gallery throughout the month of August. An Open House will be held in her honor on Friday, August 8, 2014, from 5:30-7:00 PM at the TBAC Office/Gallery located at 127 W. Chisholm Street in Alpena. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. For more information about the event or the artist please contact the TBAC Office at (989)356-6678.
