FEB POLLS: Anenih and I united to liberate Edo —Ikimi on january 21, 2015 at 12:30 am in news By Gabriel Enogholase BENIN—FORMER External Affairs Minister under the regime of late Gen. Sani Abacha, has emphasized the unity between him and Chief Tony Anenih in the political struggle to liberate Esanland and the entire Edo State from the clutches of All Progressives Congress, APC. He spoke at a rally by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Igueben, his home town. Meanwhile, the daughter of late Professor Ambrose Alli, first civilian governor of the defunct Bendel State, Ms Rosemary Alli, who was also at the rally, called on Esan people not to vote for Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, the APC Presidential candidate, alleging that he was responsible for the death of her father shortly after he was released from prison. She said: “Buhari killed my father; he put my father in prison for over one year for no just cause and he died from the humiliation and torture he was made to go through. As far as we, Alli’s political children, are concerned, Buhari will never become the President of Nigeria. I appeal to Esan and Edo people to cast their votes for Goodluck Jonathan.” Chief Ikimi said: “All Esan people gathered here this day must make a declaration that we the people of Esanland are united. We must take our destiny in our hands, that we the people of Esanland will ensure that a Southerner from a minority South-South region, Goodluck Jonathan, a man who is humble and has done what others have not done since 1999, must be allowed to complete his second term. “Chief Anenih and I are now united on the basis of our struggle for Esan people. But we will do ours and find a new generation of Esan people to whom we can hand over the baton. Six weeks ago, I decided on my own to withdraw my membership of the APC. “I was a foundation member of APC. The party was founded in my house in Abuja and you all know why I left the party. All I said then is playing out today. I will not be part of a group which for extreme reasons wants to seize power and throw the country into confusion.”
