“FED stories” is an initiative of the UCA Assembly to foster conversation about formation, education and discipleship across the Uniting Church. Based loosely on the well-known “TED Talks”, FED Stories are intended to be regional gatherings where participants hear stories of congregational practices in relation to formation, education and discipleship. FED Stories is an opportunity for congregational leaders to listen to and learn from one another in an environment of mutual encouragement and shared discovery. We believe that as a church we can learn from each others’ experiences and experiments, from long-held wisdom and from risk-taking adventure. This is an invitation to be intentional about forming lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ. The aim is for congregations, regions or presbyteries to organise their own FED Stories events wherever and whenever they like. It is about local people sharing stories with local people about how they nurture faith, education and discipleship in their local context. Craig Mitchell has put together a scaffold for how to run a FED Stories event. Congregations or regions can organise the program themselves or seek assistance from the FED Unit who have such resources including a collection of FED stories on DVD. It isnt hard to do. Why not host one in the nest few months as we focus what it means to be the Church in the season of after Pentecost?
