FEDERAL GRANT MONIES ISSUED TOWARDS THE CARE OF UNACCOMPANIED MINOR, ILLEGAL ALIEN CHILDREN IN 2014/2015 BAPTIST CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES $286,895,523 CATHOLIC CHARITIES $35,813,829 SOUTHWEST KEY PROGRAMS $179,570,628 The FY14 appropriation for this program is $868 million. A total of 30,340 children have been released to sponsors — primarily parents and other relatives — from the start of the year through July 7, according to the Office of Refugee Resettlement, which has overseen the care of the children after they are turned over by Customs and Border Protection. More children have been released in Texas than in any other state, with sponsors there receiving 4,280 children. All sponsors are subsidized by taxpayers at an average cost of around $4,000 to $6,000 per child/per month. A custodial ‘sponsor’ (mother) with three UAC’s will net about $12,000 per month federal support from the ORR and UAC program(s). Wilson/Fish The Wilson-Fish (WF) program is an alternative to traditional state administered refugee resettlement programs for providing assistance (cash and medical) and social services to refugees. The purposes of the WF program are to: Increase refugee prospects for early employment and self-sufficiency Promote coordination among voluntary resettlement agencies and service providers Ensure that refugee assistance programs exist in every state where refugees are resettled
